Assholes and Presidents rules

How to play Assholes and Presidents ?

Equipment

Here is what you will need :

  • A regular deck of 52 cards
  • Cups for all players
  • Beverage

Set up

The set-up is very simple. All players should be around the table. A dealer should be designated for the first round. Then that player deals the entire deck to all players (including himself).

So for a 4 player game, each player gets 13 cards. For the very first round, the dealer is the first player to start playing one card (it will change when the first president and the first asshole are designated)

Rules

The objectives of Assholes and Presidents is to be the first player to get rid of all cards. Cards rank from 3’s to aces, 3’s being the lowest cards and aces being the highest cards. 2’s are special cards that clear the table. Color of cards does not matter.

Assholes and Presidents

In order to take one card off your hand, that card must be higher than the card on the table, or it needs to be a higher quantity of any card value. If one player is not able to play any card, he takes a drink. If none of the players can put a card on the table, the table is cleared and the last player who put a card on the table start a new round.

The first player to get rid of all cards will be designated as the President for the next game. The player still having cards in hands when all other players succeed in getting rid of all their cards is designated as the Asshole for the next game.

The asshole will deal the card for the next round and the president will be the first to play. If all players agree before the game starts, the asshole could be the servant of all other players until the next game. He could bring beverage or food to other players, for example.

Example of game

  • First player puts a 3
  • Second player puts a 5
  • Third player puts a 10
  • Forth player doesn’t have any card greater than 10 but has a pair of 4, he puts them on the table and beats the single 10
  • First player puts a pair of jacks
  • Third player does not have any higher pair but has a triple of 7 that he puts on the table
  • Forth player cannot put any higher triples. He takes a drink
  • First player cannot put any higher triples either. He also takes a drink
  • Second player put a 2. He clears the table and starts a new round by playing another card.
